Hillsborough, California, is a town in San Mateo County. The community was incorporated in 1910. It’s named for a city in New Hampshire. Hillsborough has approximately 11,500 citizens. This is a small town that puts a big emphasis on education; over 77 percent of adults hold a college degree.
One great thing about living in Hillsborough is that it’s about 20 minutes from San Francisco, which is something to keep in mind if you commute to work. Another great thing about this community is that it has many open spaces so that you can enjoy spending hours outdoors. Vista Park is a great place for families with kids. This neighborhood park has picnic tables, playgrounds, a compass, and climbing rocks. You’ll find Sawyer Camp Trail close to the Crystal Spring Reservoir. The trail is six miles long, and you can walk or ride on it while viewing rabbits, deer, and ducks. Carolands Chateau is a 98-room mansion that’s been in existence since 1916. You can tour its rooms and gardens on a lottery basis. For errands, you can go to San Mateo to shop at stores near San Mateo Station. Some retailers you’ll find here include Walgreens, Draeger’s Market, Philz Coffee, and more. The Hillsborough Racquet Club was once a polo clubhouse. Today, it’s a venue that you can rent for any special occasion; it has an intriguing touch because its walls are decked with racquets and shuttlecocks. Hillsborough has seven schools: three public elementary schools, one public middle school, one specialty school, one college preparatory school, and one school for gifted students.
This community is a haven for homeowners because over 97 percent of real estate properties in Hillsborough are single-family houses.
