Portola Valley, California, is a town in San Mateo County. It’s the namesake of Gaspar de Portolà, a Spanish explorer who discovered this area in 1769; it was established 195 years later. Portola has approximately 4,600 people.
Portola Valley is a tranquil community with an agrestic environment and many open spaces. The largest open space in town is Windy Hill Preserve. With an area of 1,335 acres, this green space gives you more than enough room to fly a kite, walk your dog, hike, or even hang glide. Alpine Hills Tennis and Swimming Club offers lots to do for kids, adults, and families. It’s a members-only club, but it’s one worth joining; it has tennis, swimming, a restaurant, a fitness center, and more. The Portola Valley Community Hall is a place where you can hold a private event, take a class, or teach a class. It has a kitchen, activity rooms, and other amenities. If you love horses, then you should check out Spring Down Equestrian Center. The equestrian center provides lessons for people aged six and up, plus it has riding arenas. The Portola Valley Town Center is a small, yet intriguing place to explore. The town hall was once a one-room schoolhouse. You’ll also find the public library, Little People’s Park, and tennis courts there. There are three schools in Portola Valley: two public primary schools and one Catholic boarding school.
